The Golden Age of Greece Essays - Ancient Greek Architecture

The Golden Age of Greece Essays - Ancient Greek Architecture The Golden Age of Greece The antiquated sculptures and stoneware of the Golden Stone Age of Greece were a lot progressed in terrific manners. The verifiable realities of Zeuss primary purpose behind his sculpture. The extraordinary styles of the Kouros and the Kore. The tale of The Blinding of Polphemus, alongside the tale of Cyclops. The Dori and Ionic section stone sanctuaries that were worked in Greece that had an unmistakable look. The real nature of the jar, Aryballos. The container that conveyed fluids starting with one spot then onto the next. The Lyric Poetry that was initially a tune to be sung to the backup of the lyre. Zeus was thought of, as indicated by Homer, the dad of the divine beings and of humans. He didn't make either divine beings or humans; he was their dad in the feeling of being the defender and ruler both of the Olympian family and of mankind. He was ruler of the sky, the downpour god, and the cloud finder, who employed the horrible thunderclap. His breastplate was the aegis, his winged creature the bird, his tree the oak. Zeus managed the divine beings on Mount Olympus in Thessaly. His chief places of worship were at Dodona, in Epirus, the place where there is the oak trees and the most antiquated holy place, celebrated for its prophet, and at Olympia, where the Olympian Games were commended in his respect each fourth year. The Nemean games, held at Nemea, northwest of Argos, were likewise devoted to Zeus. Zeus was the most youthful child of the Titans Cronus and Rhea and the sibling of the divinities Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Demeter, and Hera. As indicated by one of the antiquated legends of the introduction of Zeus, Cronus, expecting that he may be ousted by one of his kids, gulped them as they were conceived. Upon the introduction of Zeus, Rhea enveloped a stone by wrapping up garments for Cronus to swallow and disguised the newborn child god in Crete, where he was benefited from the milk of the goat Amalthaea and raised by fairies. At the point when Zeus developed to development, he constrained Cronus to eject different kids, who were anxious to take retaliation on their dad. Zeus from now on governed over the sky, and his siblings Poseidon what's more, Hades were given control over the ocean and the black market, individually. The earth was to be managed in like manner by each of the three. Starting with the works of the Greek artist Homer, Zeus is envisioned in two altogether different ways. He is spoken to as the lord of equity and benevolence, the defender of the frail, and the punisher of the fiendish. As spouse to his sister Hera, he is the dad of Ares, the divine force of war; Hebe, the goddess of youth; Hephaestus, the lord of fire; and Eileithyia, the goddess of labor. At the equivalent time, Zeus is portrayed as beginning to look all starry eyed at one lady after another and falling back on a wide range of stunts to conceal his disloyalty from his better half. Accounts of his adventures were various in antiquated folklore, and a considerable lot of his posterity were a consequence of his affection issues with the two goddesses and mortal ladies. It is accepted that, with the turn of events of a feeling of morals in Greek life, the possibility of a lewd, once in a while crazy dad god got tacky, so later legends would in general present Zeus in an increasingly lifted up light. His numerous undertakings with humans are some of the time clarified as the desire of the early Greeks to follow their heredity to the dad of the divine beings. Zeus' picture was spoken to in sculptural fills in as a royal, whiskery figure. The most celebrated of all sculptures of Zeus was Phidias' gold and ivory monster at Olympia. The standing bare youth (kouros), the standing hung young lady (kore), and the situated lady. All underscore and sum up the fundamental highlights of the human figure and show an undeniably precise understanding of human life systems. The young people were either sepulchral or votive sculptures. Models are Apollo (Metropolitan Museum), an early work; Strangford Apollo from Lmnos (British Museum, London), an a lot later work; and the Anavyssos Kouros (National Museum, Athens). A greater amount of the musculature what's more, skeletal structure is obvious in this sculpture than in prior works. The standing, hung young ladies have a wide scope of articulation, as

My Leadership Style Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

My Leadership Style - Essay Example As per the course reading Generalist Practice with Organization and Communities, composed by Karen Ashman and Grafton Hull, driving involves â€Å"working with different frameworks, regardless of whether people, families, gatherings, associations, or communities†(K., and H., 2008). As far as the working environment, authority is a key segment in guaranteeing an organization’s achievement. A piece of guaranteeing this achievement is a leader’s capacity to convey successfully. Inside the article, â€Å"Ingredients of a Good Leader, correspondence has a few purposes. On the off chance that a pioneer is a decent communicator, they will have the option to save a positive situation for their team(Andolsen, 2008). This is because of the way that compelling correspondence will take out disarray. As far as I can tell, I have managed ventures where no one recognized what their job was or what they should do. As a pioneer, I sat everybody down and plainly illuminated what their own individual undertaking was and how it would interconnect to the general venture. The capacity to direct can be a fairly repetitive and troublesome undertaking. It is difficult to realize how hands on to be or how hands off to be. A cautious parity must be struck and a decent pioneer will have the option to distinguish that balance. There are a couple of key territories that a pioneer must be adroit at when overseeing others. Andolsen uncovers that having the option to perceive a person’s capacities, appointing undertakings, and the capacity to set gauges and order are significant factors in being effective at supervising(Andolsen, 2008). Appointment is the place the pioneer distributes undertakings that must be practiced. Appointment goes connected at the hip with perceiving someone’s capacities. In the event that an individual is especially solid in one zone, the pioneer should attempt to appoint undertakings to this individual that will play on those equiva lent qualities. As far as I can tell, I have been accountable for a couple of tasks, both scholastic and expert, where I expected to hand over the rules to someone else and administer their advancement. It is hard to do in such a case that they mess up, the issue stays with the chief. At last, a great head should have the option to fill in as a group. This is like showing others how its done in that the group should have the option to see the pioneer in a progressively equivalent position. Collaboration is another approach to do this. The initial phase in this procedure is to make a â€Å"spirit of cooperation. Andolsen characterizes this as â€Å"the conviction that there is an incentive in the work being done and that it must be practiced by a helpful cooperative energy among group members†(Andolsen, 2008). In a feeling of collaboration, everybody in the group must feel that they are a significant resource and are of worth. Collaboration and the soul of cooperation can lik ewise decide how well the pioneer and their group will cooperate. In the article entitled, â€Å"Generosity and the Moral Imagination in the Practice of Teamwork† the significance of cooperation is talked about. â€Å"We should contemplate the talks inside which we work and how needs are surveyed and spoken to on the grounds that these effect†¦ trust, relational connections, and†¦ultimately meeting staff needs†(Arber, 2009). At the point when a pioneer can effectively fuse a feeling of cooperation, they are likely going to fortify their group regarding having the option to meet objectives and furthermore to impart a synergistic inclination for their group. So as to rouse others to finish their objectives, it is imperative to show others how its done. Inside the article enti

Permissive parents tend to be very loving, yet provide few guidelines and rules. These parents do not expect mature behavior from their children and often seem more like a friend than a parental figure. These parents tend to be the polar opposite of the so-called helicopter parents. Instead of hovering over their childrens every move, permissive parents are incredibly lax  and rarely make or enforce any type of rules or structure. Their motto is often simply that kids will be kids. While they are usually warm and loving, they make little or no attempt to control or discipline their kids. Because there are few rules, expectations, and demands, children raised by permissive parents tend to struggle with self-regulation and self-control. Early Research on Permissive Parenting Based on her research with preschool-age children, developmental psychologist Diana Baumrind described three major  parenting styles. In later years, researchers would continue to investigate the different styles of parenting and even added a fourth style. Permissive parenting is one of the original parenting styles described by Baumrind. Permissive parenting is sometimes known as indulgent parenting. Parents who exhibit this style make relatively few demands on their children. Because these parents have low expectations for self-control and maturity, discipline is a rarity. According to Baumrind, permissive parents are more responsive than they are demanding. They are nontraditional and lenient, do not require mature behavior, allow considerable self-regulation, and avoid confrontation. Characteristics of Permissive Parenting Permissive parents: Have few rules or standards of behaviorWhen there are rules, they are often very inconsistentAre usually very nurturing and loving towards their kidsOften seem more like a friend, rather than a parentMay use bribery such as toys, gifts, and food as a means to get a child to behaveProvide little in the way of a schedule or structureEmphasize their childrens freedom rather than responsibilityAsk their childrens opinions on major decisionsRarely enforce any type of consequences The Effects of Permissive Parenting Researchers have found that the overly relaxed approach to parenting exhibited by permissive parents can lead to a number of negative outcomes. Children raised by permissive parents tend to lack self-discipline, possess poor social skills, may be self-involved and demanding, and may feel insecure due to the lack of boundaries and guidance. Research has also suggested that kids raised by permissive parents: Display low achievement in many areas. Because their parents have little to no expectations of them, these kids have nothing to strive toward. Studies have linked permissive parenting to lower academic achievement.Make poor decisions. Since their parents to not set or enforce any type of rules or guidelines, these kids struggle to learn good problem-solving and decision-making skills.Display more aggression and less emotional understanding. Because they do not learn to deal with their emotions effectively, particularly in situations where they do not get what they want, children with permissive parents may struggle when faced with stressful or emotionally difficult situations.May be more prone to delinquency and substance use. Studies suggest that children raised by permissive parents are more likely to engage in misconduct and alcohol or substance use.Unable to manage their time or habits. Because of the lack of structure and rules in the home, these kids never learn limits. This mi ght lead to watching too much television, playing too many computer games, and eating too much. These children never learn to limit their screen time or eating habits, which can lead to unhealthy habits and obesity. In one study, permissive parenting was linked to underage alcohol use; teens with permissive parents were three times more likely to engage in heavy drinking. Researchers also suggest that permissive parenting is linked to other risky behaviors such as drug use and other forms of misconduct. Because permissive parenting involves a lack of demands and expectations, children raised by parents with this style tend to grow up without a strong sense of self-discipline. They may be more unruly in school due to the lack of boundaries in the home and may be less academically  motivated  than many of their peers. Since these parents have few requirements for mature behavior, children may lack skills in social settings. While they may be good at interpersonal communication, they lack other important skills such as sharing. What Can You Do About Permissive Parenting? If you tend to be a pushover or struggle to enforce rules, consider looking for ways that you can develop some more authoritative parenting habits. This can be difficult at times, because it often means becoming stricter, enforcing rules, and being able to cope with your child being upset. Some strategies you might consider: Develop a list of basic household rules. In order for your kids to know how they are supposed to behave, they need to clearly understand what your expectations are.Make sure your kids understand the penalty of breaking the rules. Guidelines are useless unless there is some sort of consequence for failing to follow them. Time-outs and losing privileges are logical consequences for breaking the household rules.Follow through. This can be the greatest struggle for parents who tend to be permissive, but it is important. Try to be firm and consistent, but still loving. Help your kids understand why such rules are important by providing adequate feedback and explanations, but still make sure that consequences are in place.Reward good behavior. Try to catch your children being good and allow special privileges when they display these actions. A Word From Verywell Permissive parenting can lead to a number of problems, so it pays to consciously try to utilize a more authoritative approach if you recognize these signs of permissiveness in your own parenting.  If you tend to be more of a permissive parent, think of ways that you can help your children understand your expectations and guidelines and be consistent about your enforcement of these rules. By providing your kids with the right balance of structure and support, you can ensure that they grow up with the skills they need to succeed in life.

Mike Tyson Essay - 3157 Words

Mike Tyson Mike Tyson, the youngest ever heavyweight boxing champion of the world was born in a ghetto in the state of New York. His Father departed the family home two years after his birth, leaving his Mother to raise three children with very limited financial means. Subsequently, his Mother found a new partner who was abusive and violent. She then turned to alcohol in an attempt to escape from her existence. Michael, now aged five years, felt neglected and unloved by her but at this time he was unaware that his Mother was suffering from terminal cancer. Personality has been noted by Allport, (1961, cited in Corey 2001, p28) as being â€Å"the dynamic organisation within the individual of those psychophysical systems that determine his characteristic behaviour and thought.† However, the structure of someone’s personality varies greatly according to which theorist one considers. Sigmund Freud (1856-1934) and Karen Horney (1885-1952) are two such theorists. Freud asserted that personality was biologically determined and structured from three systems namely: the id, the ego and the superego which work together and shape a person’s behaviour. Freud stressed that there is competition between these three systems for control over the available psychic energy. Executive Summary Action Research believes that Human organizations can only be understood as whole entities (Baskerville, 1999) and that social processes are best to be studied when change is introduced to observe the effects of these. The action research literature has strongly challenged the character of positivism. Furthermore, interpretivism, like action research, tries to understand what actually is happening by looking at the totality of each situation. Positivism is a research philosophy that involves working with the observable social reality. The emphasis is on highly structured methodology to facilitate replication, and the end product can be law-like generalisations similar to those produced by the physical and natural scientists (Saunders, 2003). The basic beliefs are that the world can be seen as an external and objective object where the observer remains independent. Theory of Cognitive Development and Children Free Essays

Discuss the concept of ‘constructivism’ (from Piaget’s theory of cognitive development). Use a mix of theory and research to back up your ideas about whether or not the child constructs his/her own development. The understanding of how children comprehend the world around them has been a highly researched part of cognitive development in Psychology. We will write a custom essay sample on Theory of Cognitive Development and Children or any similar topic only for you Order Now Jean Piaget was one of the first researchers to develop a theory suggesting that children understand the world around them by actively seeking information from their environment, and continuously expanding their knowledge by organizing, adapting and assimilating this information Berlin, (1992). Piaget’s theory known as constructivism theory, has undergone a high level of scrutiny, centring on the understanding of children’s cognitive abilities, and neglecting the intelligence of assistance. Through analysing current research this paper aims to explore Piaget’s constructivism theory. Children’s development has been a topic of interest since the 1920’s, following the creation of an intelligence test developed by Piaget and his colleagues where Piaget discovered that younger children made systematic mistakes from those of older age, consequently proposing that children change qualitatively with age, Bremner et al. (2012). Studying his own children Piaget formed the constructivism theory arguing that children built their knowledge through organization (children organize their information in schemas, assimilation (using pre-existing information) and adaptation and accommodation (adapting to the condition of the environment), by searching for in formation from their environment to expand their understanding of the world, Beilin, H. (1992). Piaget proposed children take an active role in their cognitive development, and independently construct the world around them. He proposed that children face different problems as they move through the stages, and it is the solving of these problems that teach them and assist them in learning and developing their thinking. The knowledge they receive from solving these actions are not imitated or innate, instead are ‘actively constructed’ by the child. In this sense, Piaget suggests that thought is obtained from action, when actions are internalised, ones thinking increases. The child is influenced by their previous ideas and new experiences, and based on this they construct new ideas. Piaget suggested that cognitive structuring, actions representing specific ‘acts’ of intelligence, is developed and linked to stages of child development. Piaget proposed children undergo four developmental stages where cognitive structuring occurs. These stages are sensorimotor stage (from birth to two years of age), preoperational stage (from three to seven years of age), concrete operations stage (from eight to eleven years of age), and formal operational stage (from twelve years of age until adulthood) Piaget, J. Inhelder, B. (1969). In the first stage, sensorimotor which Piaget divided into six sub-stages, intelligence is demonstrated through basic motor skills such as sucking to experimenting with external objects by using schemas in order to reach their goal. ). Piaget suggested that until the age of seven months (during their third sub-stage of sensory motor stage), infants do not understand that the world consists of permanent objects. He argues that if at this stage you hide an object in front of the infant they show disappointment or simply stop looking for the object as if the object disappeared. Not until infant reaches eight months (the fourth sub-stage of sensory motor stage), does the child start to look for hidden objects, which shows that at this stage infants start to understand object permanence, Piaget, J. Inhelder, B. (1969). One of Piaget’s studies that received a great deal of attention is the A-not-B error study, which he explains that if an object is hidden in front of an infant (location A); at around eight months of age they would reach toward the hidden object. However if the object is moved to a different location (location B) infants until twelve months of age would still reach for the first location. The failure to reach the correct location Piaget explains as egocentrism clamming that at this stage children fail to see the situation in a different point of view thinking that because the object was placed in the first location that that object would permanently be there, Piaget, J. Inhelder, B. (1969). Testing Piaget’s A-not-B theory Kaufman and Needham (1999) tested 40 six and a half month infants. Using habituation technique they concluded that infants looked longer when the objects were moved. Contrary to Piaget’s findings, they suggested that infant special orientation development happens at much earlier age, arguing that Piaget underestimated infant ability. The second and third stage Piaget proposed are the preoperational and concrete stage at this stage children understand object permanence (that objects continue to exist even though they cannot ee them) , spatial layouts and also the use of language for problem solving starts during the preoperational stage through constructing existing information and eventually expanding this information. However until the age of seven children still see the world from their egocentric view (i. e. refusing to see the world from a different point of view). At the concrete stage children are able to solve visual problems such as lining in order dolls from the tallest to the shortest, however they are not able to solve mental probl ems, Piaget, J. Inhelder, B. 1969). The fourth and last stage that Piaget proposed is the formal stage. At this stage Piaget argues that children can think abstractly, consider possibilities and formulate hypothesis. Piaget’s formal operational stage has been criticised by researchers such as Kuhn et al. ,(1982) who discovered that although constructing knowledge seems to be sufficient for the sensory-motor and preoperational stage, it does not seem to be the same case with the concrete and formal operational stage since not all adults show formal operational thought. There have been numerous studies conducted which provide support for constructivism theory. Guthrie et al (2004) compared different instructional methods for student’s reading skills, these methods included a strategies instruction approach, and an approach combining strategies instruction and constructivist motivation techniques, such as incorporating student choices, collaboration, and hands-on activities. The constructivist approach, called CORI (Concept-Oriented Reading Instruction) produced a high student reading comprehension, motivation, and cognitive strategies (Guthrie et al, 2004). Similarly Jong Suk Kim (Kim, 2005) found that when students were taught using constructivist-teaching methods, they achieved higher levels in academia compared to using traditional teaching methods. Students also voiced preferring constructivist methods over traditional ones. However, one of the biggest criticisms of Piaget’s theory has been the ignorance of social and cultural influences on child development. Contrary to Piaget, who believed that allowing children to experiment and express their own ideas enabled their constructive processes to develop knowledge, Vygotsky’s (1962) sociocultural theory proposed that learning and development are derived collaboratively from socialisation and education. He argued that simple knowledge such as perception and attention are mental abilities are innate, and although children actively developed their thought rocesses through the environment, they could also, with assistance from others, reach a higher level/stage of cognitive development than the stage they are at when they perform alone. Vygotsky named this ‘the zone of proximal development’, â€Å"†¦the distance between the actual development of a child as determined by the independent problem solving, and the level of potentia l development as determined through problem solving under adult guidance or in collaboration with more peers Vygotsky (1978)† Vygotsky’s (1978, p. 56). Therefore, although his theory is similar to Piaget in that he believes cognitive development is restricted to a limited range at a certain age, he believes that with the aid of social interaction, for instance the help of a mentor, an individual/child can understand concepts and schemas that they would be unable to comprehend alone. In this sense it questions the extent to which children construct their own environment and developments as children’s knowledge may develop at a much faster rate through interaction and guidance of more experienced peers , such as older siblings, parent or teachers, Gauvain and Cole (1997). Evidence supporting Vygotksy can be seen in a study by Gauvain et al. , (1997). He found that if you test a group of nine year old pupils with a number of problem solving skills (at Piaget’s concrete operational stage) and test a group of twelve year old pupils (at Piaget’s formal operational stage), and not assist them, they would show the same level of intelligence, concluding that knowledge is not simply constructed through experience but also through techniques taught by others. Similarly, Mayer (2004) proposed that â€Å"a recent replication is research showing that students learn to become better at solving mathematics problems when they study worked-out examples rather than when they solely engage in hands-on problem, Mayer (2004, p. 18) Conclusion Piaget’s four-stage knowledge development theory is highly researched criteria within developmental Psychology. The use of constructing previously learnt information into new information through experience seems to be more effective at an early age. His theory seems to underestimate the children’s ability and knowledge; however it overestimates adolescence ability. It also is unarguable that constructivism theory fails to acknowledge the social effects that have been shown to play a crucial part in knowledge development. However it is not to say that Piaget’s constructivism theory should be discarded altogether, since Piaget was the pioneer in introducing clinical methods to explore children’s thoughts. This remains the fundamental theory used in child development research. Moreover, as mentioned above, Piaget’s constructivism theory is highly used in schools, guiding teachers in how to enable children to explore their own environment through expression and experimentation. In conclusion, knowledge development could be acquired through both construction of ones own experiences, and the help of more experienced peers. References 1. Beilin, H. (1992). Frankensteins Monster Essay Example For Students

Frankensteins Monster Essay Since Shellys time, science has become more dangerous and developed significantly. If she looked at science in modern terms, would she still be against interfering with nature? Science can be a risk but depending upon the level of sophistication. In the 1800s people living to be 45-50 but now life expectancy has increased. A part of her argument is carried through to the modern era. In Shellys opinion, transplants, cosmetic surgeries and treatments are ambiguous because they are all a risk to the natural order of things as well as being beneficial to peoples health. Vector Frankenstein took the creating life matter to extremes. She never faced a particular dilemma where up to date treatments can extend the length of lives. Marry Shelly could have been a member of the 20th century religion entitled the Seventh Day Adventists. This group believe that if they interfere with nature by using modern medical advances then their souls will be banished to hell for eternity. The main scientific interests at that time was bringing things back to life and an experiment apparently was undertaken, where a piece of vermicelli was animated. In 1816 at Eton, Percy Shelly, Marys husband becomes interested in experiments with electric shocks, which caused the muscles of frogs to twitch. It is possible that Percy demonstrated the technique to Mary.  The monster was released from deep down in graves of departed souls just like the genie from the bottle. Once a will being is unleashed it cannot be put back in the bottle forever and the impact on the society and their memories cannot also put back in the bottle. While Vector was resurrecting a female monster his Id spoke and made him realise how the human race could be taken over by super beings. A new species would bless me as its creator this illustrates his first motivation was to become the leader of the new species but in time his one thought reversed. His creation would change nature; thy death is the only answer. In reality the hydrogen bomb could elevate the sea over Mount Everest and endower the world by embossing its name by touching any surface. The scream would be sent out of the world and dust wouldnt even settle in a thousand years. It will shake heaven and hell and death would be a plague upon mankind but its objective is only to bring harmony. Conversely, Frankenstein wanted to lead a new super king race that would bring a new world. The comparison between them shows they were both meant to be beneficial to mankind but both in truth became a danger to the human race. It comes down to blood; we can never undo a creation but to lock away this hideous, vitreous mortal, death for both; the creator and the monster will need to be undertaken. Even after the deaths, the fear of one concept of the devil returning will be in peoples reminiscences. Shelly convicts, the more cautious you are in applying science, the happier the paradise you live in.  Frankensteins celestial creation devoted his whole life and as an individual consequences are proceeded. Initially he was horrified by the very look of the monster. He became dizzy with the immensity of his sins. The seizing view of his yellow skin. Scarcely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath; his hair was of a lustrous black, his teeth of a pearly whiteness. A more horrid contrast with his watery eyes and straight black lips. This punishes his creation of the fretful wretch staring at him. I had worked hard for nearly two years but now that I had finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart. Unable to endure the aspect of the being I had created, I rushed out of the room. It was unbearable to look at, he was unsightly, scandalous, uncivilized my dream of beauty is a nightmare. This was just the start, the start of brutality. .u80d402ddbe39237515eb27b58c0c6acf , .u80d402ddbe39237515eb27b58c0c6acf .postImageUrl , .u80d402ddbe39237515eb27b58c0c6acf .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u80d402ddbe39237515eb27b58c0c6acf , .u80d402ddbe39237515eb27b58c0c6acf:hover , .u80d402ddbe39237515eb27b58c0c6acf:visited , .u80d402ddbe39237515eb27b58c0c6acf:active { border:0!important; } .u80d402ddbe39237515eb27b58c0c6acf .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u80d402ddbe39237515eb27b58c0c6acf { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u80d402ddbe39237515eb27b58c0c6acf:active , .u80d402ddbe39237515eb27b58c0c6acf:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u80d402ddbe39237515eb27b58c0c6acf .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u80d402ddbe39237515eb27b58c0c6acf .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u80d402ddbe39237515eb27b58c0c6acf .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u80d402ddbe39237515eb27b58c0c6acf .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u80d402ddbe39237515eb27b58c0c6acf:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u80d402ddbe39237515eb27b58c0c6acf .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u80d402ddbe39237515eb27b58c0c6acf .u80d402ddbe39237515eb27b58c0c6acf-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u80d402ddbe39237515eb27b58c0c6acf:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Bathsheba and Oak are both very significant characters in the book EssayThe outcast of the world escaped on the pleasant world. Emotionally it affected his soul. He was unable to study and lay sick with terror about the monsters solitude. Another exhausting side effect came upon swift wind to what he had invented. A child, his brother who hasnt met life yet but only just began his childhood. Murder of William his beloved brother, by the vile Monster; it was like a poison dagger touching his heart.  I suffered living torture. It was to be decided, whether the result of my curiosity and lawless devices would cause the death of two of my fellow-beings: one smiling babe, ful l of innocence and joy; the other far more dreadfully murdered. These words from Vector were not only words but every syllable was dreadful.  This possibly was the worst ever thing could happen but no, a valued member of his family was to be blamed and knowing the perpetrator he was powerless. Justine was going to be executed for something, which Vector enforced. Who would believe his solitude, his creation? Who would believe such a story could possibility be true. A magnified moral problem is between the matter of life and death. A mutant species could bring our natural life to an end. A choice had to be made, to be or not to be. If he, the creator of will beings satisfied the wretchs desire of a female monster then he would be the monster that mankind would be after. If instructions by the powerful creature were not complied with then I shall be with you on your weeding night. The verdict of this threat is to show a serious tragedy will be inevitable in the future if the sanctity of the monster may not meet. This means he has no love relation. He needs companionship to end his desolation. This deprived his remaining life, until the day of his weeding night. The monster satiated his words and devastated the life of Victor by murdering Elizabeth. Furious, murderous, insane, lifeless wretch I fell senseless to the ground. The emotional grief put Victor in a mental institute. No words could describe his agony, the incoming pain, mental pain is more demoralizing than physical pain. His emotions made him Scio. He felt like committing suicide and homicide. Now there is only one course of action revenge. His one thought, one conception and one purpose had now switched and the only thing left was for him to end his creation, the beast with his bare hands. Victors devoted his remaining life to end this paranormal creature. Finally the time came to put Frankensteins Monster; the genie back in the bottle where it belongs but not only that but Victors worthless life needed to be condemned. I confess that it is the devouring and only passion of my soul. My rage is unspeakable when I reflect that the murderer, whom I have turned loose upon society, still exists. This is Vectors debut, he made the monster from his bare hands and thereby he will destroy it with its bare tenders. The creator and the creation can be masked but the people of Geneva will always have the memories of the Monster. Shelly also put the idea across that you start with nothing and you finish with nothing. Hence, his greediness was an outcast to his life. Through her novel, Mary Shelly shows the readers potential dangers of science interfering with nature both globally and individually.

#1 Be Prepared Essays - Business, Economy, Professional Studies

#1 Be prepared E-commerce activity has grown rapidly during 1999 and is set to finally explode in 2000 and 2001. You need to ensure that your business is ready for this incredible opportunity by building a Web store now. This will allow time for you and your employees to learn the necessary new skills and to adapt your business processes. #2 Being first secures market share The initial entrant to a market captures the mindshare of consumers and can prove difficult to dislodge - just look at the mighty Barnes and Noble trying to play catch up with Amazon. Even if you aren't first, you still need to get on line fast to protect your current off line market share being stolen by an on line entrepreneur. #3 Low entry costs Although large enterprises typically spend a six-figure sum on an e-commerce enabled Web site, you can do it for a lot less. And no matter what you spend, it will be considerably less than the cost of setting up a bricks-and-mortar store. #4 Lower transaction costs Dealing with customers via the Web, whether processing orders or fielding support calls is typically cheaper than traditional methods. For example, Dell estimate that they save $8 each time a person checks their order status at their Web site instead of calling them. #5 Access to a global market Your telephone and fax machine already give you the power to sell globally, but the Web is unique in its ability to allow you to market your products globally. #6 Access to wealthy consumers Although the Internet is moving slowly towards mass consumerism, the median income of the typical Web user is still well above the American average, with 57% of on line households having an income of greater than $50,000, according to AdAge. Your Web store will give you increased access to this desirable demographic segment. #7 Off loading perishable inventory If the nature of your business regularly leaves you with a large, perishable inventory, a Web store can be an ideal way of getting rid off it. For example, American Airlines use their Web store to off load their unsold seat inventory. #8 On line distribution The distribution of data and software through the Web has quickly moved from a novelty to an expectation. If you are in the business of selling these soft goods you need to start distributing them on line now, or lose out to your competitors. #9 Because your customers demand it For years, many large corporations have tried to push their vendors to use EDI but have let their smaller vendors off the hook because of the acknowledged difficulties in setting such systems up. However, using the Internet for e-commerce transactions is much easier than traditional EDI and soon many companies will mandate its use for all dealings with them. #10 Making money OK, we've all heard the saw about how no one's making money on the Internet. There are some grounds to this as only a small number of Web sites are currently pulling in significant revenues. This is all about to change as the Web finally reach mass-market proportions in the United States, with nearly 25% of households forecast by IDC to be on line by the end of 1998. This will allow Web commerce to take off and, at last, there will be a real opportunity to make money.

Sample MBA Leadership Recommendation Letter

Sample MBA Leadership Recommendation Letter As part of the admissions process, most MBA programs ask students to submit recommendation letters from a current or former employer. The admissions committee wants to know more about your work ethic, teamwork capability, leadership ability, and work experience. This information helps them to determine whether you would be a good fit for their business program. Tips for a Great MBA Recommendation Letter The  best MBA recommendation letters  support the rest of your business school application by providing details about your work experience, leadership, and personal qualities. They can push borderline candidates into the acceptance stack. Choose your recommenders wisely.  Business schools would rather see professional recommendations than academic recommendations, preferably from your current supervisor. Your MBA recommenders should be able to speak in detail about your qualifications, supporting the points you made in your essays.  If you dont know many people who can do this, start cultivating some. Prepare your recommenders well.  While its not advised to write your own recommendations for others to sign, you should provide your recommenders with the necessary background information to write compelling letters.  This should include: The resume you plan to submit with your application.A statement of purpose indicating how you’re presenting yourself in your application. If you havent written it, provide a rough outline of what you plan to say.Talking points. Remind them of projects you managed that they can use to highlight your skills.A list of schools to which you are applying.A list of deadlines.  Ask for recommendations well in advance of deadlines.Instructions for how to submit letters, through  the school’s online system or by mail. If your schools require mailed letters, include envelopes and postage. Send a thank-you note.  Send it two weeks before the deadline, which will also provide a gentle reminder if the recommendation  hasnt been written. Once you get your decisions,  let your recommenders know how it turned out. Sample Leadership Recommendation Letter This sample letter of recommendation was written for an MBA applicant. The letter writer made an effort to discuss the applicants leadership and management experience. To Whom It May Concern:Janet Doe has worked for me as a resident manager for the past three years. Her responsibilities have included leasing, inspecting apartments, hiring maintenance staff, taking tenants complaints, making sure common areas look presentable, and keeping track of the property budget.During her time here, she has had an amazing impact on the appearance and financial turnaround at the property. The property was near bankruptcy when Janet took over. She turned things around almost immediately. As a result, we are expecting our second year of profit.Janet is highly respected by her co-workers for her willingness to help anyone anytime she can. Document 20 Oral interview with robert Rasmus Essay

Document 20 Oral interview with robert Rasmus - Essay Example He says it felt like being in a dramatic movie, but with the added terror of it actually being real. It took a while for him to get used to this. Later in the interview he describes his six week tour of duty, and actual examples of the battles he was in and how they were. Throughout the rest of the interview though he returns to that same conflict he feels between the excitement of the war and the horrors of the reality of it, and how he doesn’t want to die. He says he was â€Å"pulled in two directions: Gee, I don’t wanna get killed. And, Boy, this is gorgeous country.† In the rest of his interview he talks about the experience of taking one German town and then another one, and how the first to die was a sergeant everybody hated and wanted to kill. But he is sure nobody in his platoon did fire the shot, and that it was a German. The immediate historical context of this document is the end of World War II. It is a war that many people thought had to be fought be cause of the evils of Hitler and the holocaust. Despite that, and despite the worthiness of the cause of the war, to the soldiers fighting in the war it was still terrifying. This accounts for the sense of â€Å"schizophrenia† that Robert Rasmus refers to several times in the interview. He felt simultaneously as if he was doing the right thing, and that it was great, and that he was going to die, and he did not want to die.

Final exam( to answer question) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Final exam( to answer question) - Essay Example For example, students need to be given time, not as a constraint, but as a gift in a supportive place where they can explore what they want with the assistance of the teacher. 2. Discuss what you take to be the relevance of Plato’s â€Å"Allegory of the Cave† to our understanding of freedom. In the allegory of the cave, Socrates describes a group of prisoners chained to the walls watching shadows of people walking behind them and making them to be whatever they want them to be. They are not aware of anything else except what they think is their reality. One day one of the prisoners is released and he realizes what he thought was reality was just his own mind ideas which they were made to believe in (Plato). This story is relevant to our understanding of freedom in current society. When we see too much of something we believe that is the reality when it is really not. We believe in what we see and we are being controlled by the government, media and politicians and we th ink what they tell us is true because we don’t know the truth. At times, the caves we are in are controlled by our parents (Plato). They have the power to control where we hang out, what to watch on TV and even what time to go to bed. 3. Discuss the relevance of the Genesis creation story (the first three chapters only) to our understanding of freedom We as humans, too often long to be free of restrictions and limits, free to choose our own way with no consequences. We simply do not like boundaries. The first couples (Adam and eve) were lured by the promise of absolute freedom, as such; they would have no boundaries except those of their own making. The promise was empty and false, a product of human selfishness and a destructive desire for independence and autonomy. We learn still more about ourselves. We all want absolute freedom without restrictions For instance, a child is concerned with nothing else than having its immediate needs met. 4. Explain how the theme of fear fu nctions in J.M. Coetzee’s allegorical novel Waiting for the Barbarians The imprisonment of the barbarians indicates a sense of colonization and discrimination. This renders them to live a worthless life and always full of fear. The example from the story, of a powerful barbarian, exemplifies a scenario where a position of authority cannot deliver from the bondage of slavery. Coetzee’s allegory of empire represents an empire full of poor use and delegation of power (McCarthy 8). Power is useful when it is used to lead and direct people to do the right things in the right way. Power is misused when people get mistreated and they suffer, yet others enjoy power. The scenario of power from barbarian point of view demonstrates how those ruling, although with all the ability to rule itself, can still guide a colonized society, negatively. 5. Explain George Orwell’s argument about the uses and abuses of language in his essay â€Å"Politics and the English Language.â₠¬ Be sure to note Orwell’s critique of political language, what he thinks the consequences of poor language are, and his

The structure role and relationship between parties in communication

The structure role and relationship between parties in communication Explain the structure, role and relationship between parties in communication industry 1. Identify the different parties and briefly describe their role i.e. the functions of these parties (advertiser, client, ad agency etc.) in the communication industry Centralized This is the structure in which the key decisions are made by the head or top managers. This structure is used in order to have as much control as possible. Organizations with this kind of structure have several layers of management that control the company by maintaining a high level of authority. Staff and employees have limited authority to carry out any decisions without any approval from authority. It has a top-down management style where the top level communicates with the middle managers who further communicate with other staff. This kind of structure usually has decreased span of control. This type of structure is also becoming rare because of its many disadvantages. If the company is too large with such structure then its operations could become less efficient. Also lower level employees can become less motivated. On the other hand it can be advantageous too. It is a good structure for small business also it helps centralized authority may have a better picture of the organiz ation. Source: http://www.answers.com/topic/organizational-structure Decentralized: This structure is the opposite to the centralized structure. This type gives less control to the top managers for the decision making, rather decisions are made at the lower levels in the organizational hierarchy. Usually companies tend to start off centralized and then progress towards decentralized style. Decentralized structure lets everyone participate in the decision making process. It lets employees use their mind, experience and skills to improve inefficient areas without having to wait for any approval. This structure helps to eliminate any unnecessary levels of management and to let first line mangers/staff to have the authority. This increases the span of control and has a botton-up management style. It also lets the higher level managers to concentrate more on important decision and let other decisions be handled by the lower level. The disadvantage can be that managers often lack training and understanding of advertising. Source: http://www.learnmanagement2.com/centraliseddecentralised.htm Parties In communication Industry: Advertiser (Client) Advertiser is a sender or communicator who develops a marketing program and at the end makes the final decision of that plan. An advertiser can be a person, an organization or company who plans, executes and places advertisement in order to target customers. Their main aim is to promote a product or service. The advertisers need to be prepared for their interaction with an advertising agency, advertising departments or In-house agencies. They need to understand the companies objectives clearly, identify the distribution channels appropriately and manage the budget accordingly. Source: http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/advertiser.html In-house agency In-house agency is an advertising agency in an organization that is set up, owned and operated by the advertiser. Sometimes there are advertising departments too. Instead of outsourcing the advertising to some agency, the ad campaigns are handled by its own in-house agency. This lets a business have more control n its advertising activities, it reduces advertising and promotion costs and is time saving for the advertisers. Source: http://advertising.about.com/od/advertisingglossaryi/g/inhouseagency.htm Advertising Agency This is an outside organization that specializes in advertising development. It provides marketing and promotion services such as planning, preparing and placing of advertisements. Usually big clients use many advertising agencies and because of its continuous growth and use, agencies are becoming partners as well. They provide clients with very skilled, specialized, experienced, expertise services and objective view points because of which it is preferred over in-house agencies. There are different types of services that different agencies provide such as: Full Service Agency: Provides marketing, communication, research, promotion and all other services Account Services : it is the link between the ad agency and the client Marketing Services: provides all marketing services such as marketing research, planning or marketing selection Creative Boutiques: they provide creative services for extra creativity. They emphasize on creative concept development and unique artistic services. Media Buying Services: This is media related and lets a client buy radio and television time. This is quite commonly used these days which offers media strategy consultancy. Media Organizations: these are television, radio, newspapers and etc. It has its own policy that attracts particular customers. Specialized Marketing Communication Services These services include direct marketing agencies, sales promotion agencies, public relations, sampling programs, contest arrangements, interactive agencies for website development and etc. 2. Discuss the relationship between the different parties of the industry Relationship of different parties: Advertiser In-house ad agency: The relationship between an advertiser and in-house agency is that an advertiser is who runs the in-house agency. He is the person in charge of what and how things go around in it. It can sometimes be owned by the advertiser as all. He operates all the operations, handles advertising activities and deals with outside ad agencies if any. Advertising agency Advertiser: In this case the advertiser is the client who outsources its advertising plans to an advertising agency. All the working, planning, preparing, and marketing activities are carried out by the ad agency. They take the responsibility of marketing and promotion services. Also these days they are becoming partners as well with bigger companies in order to be more efficient and productive in their dealing and working. They help advertisers define and refine their marketing strategies. It is important for an advertiser to do all its homework before getting into a relationship with any agency. Media organizations Clients/ad agency: Media organizations are media specialists who help in giving consultation to advertisers or even advertising agencies regarding buying media time and space. Since Media organizations buy media time in large quantities, they can help them to acquire media time at much lower cost than advertisers or ad agencies themselves could have. In-house agency ad agency: Sometimes even in-house agencies acquire help from ad agencies regarding different matters seeking for expertise and specialized help. Outcome 1.2 Identify the trends in advertising and promotion and evaluate (advantages and Disadvantages) of their impact 1. Discuss the current trends in the advertising With the growing competition in the advertising sector and evolution of trends with the passage of time has led advertising agencies to come up with different techniques, other than the traditional tv, radio, newspaper ways, to attract and retain customers. Some of these new trends include:  · Media fragmentation  · Micro-marketing  · Brand proliferation Media fragmentation: Media fragmentation is dividing and increasing the range of media, its choices and consumption in terms of more different channels, mobile, Internet, more websites, radio stations, magazines, satellite tvs and etc. This has given consumers a new set of habits and expectations. Advantages: Since a long time (and even still) cable channels was the only way of distributing video signals on a large scale, which meant small number of channels to large audience. Now the number of different channels as well as satellite tv has reduced this problem. Media fragmentation is just the right thing to divide and target its audience. The web specifically has increasingly divided its audience and has fragmented the media at large. Internet, online ads has played a big role, similarly the radio and mobile networks have helped in delivering their message efficiently as well. Moreover it has given increased consumer control. It has created a lot of opportunities for media buying businesses. This is one of the current trends that helps in reducing the difficulty of reaching its audience Disadvantages: Yet at the same time fragmentation had made it difficult to reach everyone too, because consumers now have a wide range of choice of what to watch, listen and read. It has decreased the attention since there is so much variety therefore media has become less efficient and more complex. Following are some factors related to media fragmentation. Source: http://moneyterms.co.uk/media-fragmentation/ Micro Marketing: Micro marketing is basically niche marketing in which the tailoring of products and marketing strategies are made locally within a smaller region. In this type marketing message is made a lot more personally to the buyer. A good example would be of local cable advertisements. Advantages: micro marketing helps in focusing and specializing on a smaller segment from a larger market. Locating a profitable micro niche is important and quite beneficial in terms of less competition. One can specialize on a smaller target. It has become easier to figure out the relevant market segment for a specific product, to keep in contact more often and to become more closely acquainted with a smaller crowd. Disadvantages: Through micro marketing the economies of scale and the sales growth is limited. Since a business focuses on a smaller segment, the survival of the firm may be difficult if the sales begin to drop. It is not very beneficial to larger level firms. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micromarketing Brand Proliferation: When one company introduces and puts new brands under same product lines is called brand proliferation. More items are brought in with new brand names to cover each and very market segment for that product line. Advantages: It helps in expanding a companys market share as well as the market. The basic aim is usually to keep the prime brand intact while competing with the lower brands. It also brings variety to the customers and excitement to the sales team. For example Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic are of same product line but with different brand names and price range. Disadvantages: This sometimes hurts the prime brand sales figures because of higher sales of other brands in same product line. This increases competition in the market as well as among themselves too. Revenue might not increase because of brand proliferation. Two trends in Pakistan that are very common these days are micro marketing and telecommunication. Telecommunication: We are in an era where globalization and telecommunication is increasing at a fast pace. This is having a great positive effect on the economy of Pakistan. The country now boasts 5 major operators that are Telenor, Mobilink, Ufone, Warid and Zong. This has helped to reduce call charges and improve the quality of service. All of these in competition have offered a lot of different, unique and new innovative value added services such as MMS, low international call rates, low SMS rates, GPRS and recently Mobile tv. The telecommunication trend has offered a huge potential for advertisers to reach out to new markets in a totally new way. Source: http://pafkiet.edu.pk/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=u7RC2hLlgQ0%3Dtabid=515mid=1805 Micro-marketing: This has recently become quite common trend in Pakistan due to increase use of local cable services and channels. For example the local ads of Sona jewellers, Karegar, Rsheen on local cable service in Peshawar. Also telemarketing such as Televantage on channels has also become quite common too. Online advertisement is another new trend increasingly developing. This has cost loss to a lot of newspaper agencies as well as traditional advertising media companies. 3. Evaluate the impact of these trends on the industry and parties of the industry These trends have had a great impact on the over all advertising industry as well as the parties of the industry. It has opened up new markets, opportunities and chances for advertisers, clients, ad agencies and etc to reach out to everyone. Due to media fragmentation there is wide range of variety and options for them to choose from. Moreover it has provided Media buying businesses with a lot of new opportunities to target its market specifically and earn profit. Mobile phones have become one of the most popular devices and have increased capabilities of technologies. It has enabled access to email, internet browsing and multimedia thus giving advertising yet another channel to reach the audience. Media fragmentation has allowed advertising delivery on a per user basis according to the viewers interests, location, habits, demographics and etc. Source: http://www.wikinvest.com/concept/Impact_of_Internet_Advertising Outcome 1.3 Use any two response hierarchy models on the two ads selected by the students 1. Select two ads which have to be evaluated considering the response hierarchy models. 2. Discuss how these ads confirms to the response hierarchy models being discussed AIDA response hierarchy model: AIDA stands for Attention, Interest, Desire and Action which are the four stages of the sales process. It can be used as a checklist or guideline to determine where they stand and help them increase the sales if they fulfill the checklist for a customer. A : Attention, attracting and gaining the attention of the customers. The customers dont want to watch, listen or read long stories and long advertisements therefore keeping it short and the first few seconds attractive is important. Maybe a pleasant surprising element for example. I : Interest, after attention is gained it is the focus on customers interest by mentioning the benefits and advantages. Making sure not to bore the audience. D : Desire , To initiate a desire in a customer or convince a customer for what you want them to do or to buy a specific product. A : Action , Convincing the customer enough to take some action in purchasing a product. Hierarchy of effects model: This is a sequence of five steps that a consumer passes through before purchasing a product. It basically shows how advertisement works. It is said that a consumer passes through thinking, feeling and intention phases. http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/hierarchy-of-effects.html Awareness: creating awareness and capturing attention of the main target audience. Knowledge: Along with the awareness it is important to give knowledge about a product and brand. Liking: Next is to create liking in a customer for a product. It is important to find if the product is liked or not and the cause for it. Preference: Building customer preference of their product through values, quality, image, performance and etc. It should be made sure that the customer not only likes your product but prefers it over other products. Conviction: Next is to make the consumer come back again and again for your product. Advertiser is to convict the target customers and develop a firm belief in them to always come to you. Preference: No emphasis was made to create a preference over competitors (for example seasonal deals like buy one get one free) Conviction: yes Purchase: Yes For Merit Outcome 1.3 12 Make an effective judgment on the ads selected whether you think the ads are appropriately developed to satisfy the hierarchy models. Give reference to books or internet sources used. The two hierarchy models i used in the previous question were AIDA and Effects model. They were applied on two selected ads (Pepsi and Ufone) to determine their effect. Based on my observation and study it can be concluded that these ads were appropriately developed to satisfy the hierarchy models. They were both successful in gaining the attention, interest and develop the desire in the customer. Ufone is using humorous theme in its ads which has become its benchmark. People enjoy watching, discussing and following Ufone ads the most and it is the biggest achievement of Ufone in recent times. Ufone became a part of the Emirates Telecommunication Corporation Group (Etisalat) in 2006.Since its inception, Ufone has focused on the people of Pakistan, empowering them with the most relevant communication modes and services that enable them to do a lot more than just talk, at a price that suits them the most. With a strong and uniquely humorous communication direction that has now become Ufones signature across all advertising media, Ufone gives its customers many reasons to smile. (source: http://thecurrentaffairs.com/ufone-ufone-pakistanufone-call-packages-ufone-jobs.html) Moreover with its success Ufone has been able to build a subscriber base of over 20 million, network coverage in 10,000 locations, international roaming to more than 260 live operators in more than 150 countries. As the world of telecommunications advances, Ufone promises its customers to stay ahead, developing and evolving, to go beyond their expectations, because at Ufone, its all about U. http://www.amcy5.com/Reports/marketing/amcy10.htm http://www.recipeapart.com/ufone-best-funny-ads-and-tv-commercials/ Pepsi on the other hand is already a successful brand which uses advertisment to just remind the customer of their existence. The pepsi ad i chose has used two most popular celebrities of Bollywood (Shahrukh, actor and Sachin, cricketer). Shahrukh was the Brand ambassador till 2008 and so was Sachin at some point. Pepsis style of advertisment has almost always used a celebrity for their advertisement to gain customer attention as well as create desire in them to use a brand popular among celebrities. source: http://entertainment.oneindia.in/bollywood/news/2009/shahrukh-pepsi-thrown-out-160209.html Therefore both the advertisements till some extent satisfies and fulfills the hierarchy model criteria. However Pepsi company could have made this advertisment a little more innovative and creative by developing a more effective story line stating its preference and more knowledge regarding price for Pepsi. Ufone could have also given a bit more knowledge about their rates and number of sms offering.

Education in Bolivia for the past 50 years Essay

In the year 1989, education in Bolivia was not considered as a right by many people. However, it was observed as a means to control the lives of the masses by the ruling sector. The government restricted the release of funds to education because it gave more attention in other branches of the society. As a result, the illiteracy rate was very high. A country which has 13-14% illiteracy rate, Bolivia is regarded as the worst in the South Americas. The Bolivian government allocates 23% of its yearly budget to education which is actually the highest percentage in South American countries despite of its small budget. However, this did not help improve the literacy level of the country as a whole. According to the Bolivian National Statistics Institute in 2002, the rate of absolute literacy level is about 20%, functional literacy rate is about 35%, with totality of 55% only. There are about 11. 8% literacy rate in men were proven and this increases to a relatively high 27. 7% for women (Carlos Santander-Maturana, 2007). Nowadays, the absentee rate is very high learner for children in the primary school from six to eight years. It is comparably lower on children aged nine, but increases significantly when on children aged 12 (Santander-Maturana, C. 2007). A very familiar explanation for this growing dilemma is that the majority poor families, which comprise the leading portion in the Bolivian people, force their kids to stop from going to school in order to help their parents increase the family income. Similar thing is true to the other students who are in the secondary and tertiary level as is confirmed in Country Studies (2007): Only 1/3 of the first graders completed the 5th grade, 20% started secondary school, 5% began their postsecondary studies, and just 1% received a university degree. Dropout rates were higher among girls and rural children. Only about 40% of rural youngsters continued their education beyond the third grade (Country Studies, 2007). This astounding percentage is the worst among the South American countries and the government is now trying its best in combating this central problem in education. As years go by, parents of poor families started seeing education as a means to save them and their future generation from poverty. But as a family strives hard for survival, problems will always remain as problems no matter how they manage to resolve them. The current economic condition of the family is one of the many causes of their being illiterate. As of now, the literacy condition is getting more and more improved because people are paying much attention in education more than they did before. The government is also in support of the projects to make education better. Many programs are now laid out and are being implemented to secure the future of the country. The Bolivian style of education compared side by side with the United States’ is quite similar in a few ways. As what is stated in Encyclopedia Britannica (2007): Primary education for children 6 to 13 years of age is free and officially compulsory, although school attendance is difficult to enforce in some areas. Secondary education, lasting up to 4 years, is not compulsory. Most education is state-supported, but private institutions are permitted (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2007). Education in the United States is funded mainly by the government in three levels: federal, state, and local. Primary education, which starts from 5-6 years old and secondary education are both compulsory. College education is still an option because there are still vocational and technical courses being offered by the state. Reading literacy rate in the US is as high as 98% being recognized as one of the best reading literacy all over the world.

Alfieri

The play A View from the Bridge by Arthur Miller is a short play with nine main characters. One of these nine characters is Alfieri. He is the first character that the audience meets. Alfieri is a lawyer to whom Eddie Carbone goes to for advice in the middle of the play. Alfieri also plays a part role as a narrator. He is the character that starts and ends the play and gives the audience background detail as well as inside hints at what he thinks will happen.Alfieri's opening speech is a very long and detailed prologue with a lot of information for the audience. Some may say that it gets a bit boring as it is a lot to take in and in that sense Arthur Miller has taken a bit ofa gamble choosing to start his play off with something like that. It is an introductory speech that introduces the play to the audience and finishes it. Through this opening speech we learn a lot and it is a very thorough and informative piece of dialogue. One thing that we learn is that the events that are appro aching ill be bloody and tragic in their conclusions.Alfieri hints at the story and this is one of the tactics of keeping the audience interested. â€Å"sat there as powerless as l, and watched it run its bloody course. † This last sentence in his speech while he is alone to the audience tells us what is to come and gets us ready for what is about to unfold in this play. To start Offa play with a speech like Alfieri's, leaving the audience with this sentence creates an atmosphere right at the start of the play and it makes the audience want to find out hat he is trying to prepare them for.Alfieri also gives some background to the play and some history to the setting. He gives part of a Sicilian background which gives us a broader view and some background information of the setting. † .. in Sicily, form where their fathers came, the law has not been a friendly idea since the Greeks were beaten. † In most of the speech Alfieri is talking about what people thought of lawyers and how they were looked upon. A lawyer is a bad omen to them, something that is thought and seen negatively, unlucky to the neighbourhood. This tells us that the community is very superstitious. I am a lawyer. In this neighbourhood to meet a lawyer or a priest is unlucky. † the idea of law. â€Å".. the law has not been a friendly idea. † Alfieri gives his own personal history and uses this as an opportunity to introduce himself to the audience. He is also the one who introduces Eddie Carbone to the audience. This is where his narrator role comes in. Arthur Miller has given Alfieri a very important and creative character played like this as a double role. â€Å"l am a lawyer. † â€Å"l was born in Italy. I only came here when I was twenty five. â€Å"Eddie Carbone, a longshoreman working the docks from Brooklyn Bridge. † In his dialogue, Alfieri also gives a bit of the New York background with small details such as the specific setting he mentio ns. Although it seems like a long speech, in this prologue there is a large amount of information lying beneath it which emerges from it, and with all this information it is quite short in comparison. In it he also mentions history form way back in the Roman times, Caesar's years which was almost 2000 years ago. But this is Red Hook,† â€Å"since the Greeks were beaten†¦ â€Å".. that in some Caesar's year†¦ † He is saying in this speech that in those times till now law is frowned upon but things have changed since then. People have become more civilised now and that is why things have settled down. There is compromise now. Alfieri then goes on to say that one thing that hasn't changed since 2000 years ago, even though law is seen badly, that there will always be a Job for a lawyer. â€Å"now we settle for half, and I like it better. † â€Å"†¦ every few years there is still a case,† l no longer keep a pistol in my filing cabinet. â€Å"â⠂¬ ¦ Justice is very important here. † Alfieri's opening prologue is very important. In it he plays a commentator, getting the audience ready for the intensity of the plays meaning, hinting at what's going to background. He poses questions to the audience in his own way and explains and provides evidence on a number of things. He also comments on different things and gives a lot of information in this play and gives his opinion on them. He plays a very important part and provides the backbone to the play.

The Top 5 William Shakespeare Plays

The idea of picking the top five plays by William Shakespeare is sure to spark a quarrel among literary critics and theatergoers. Though many consider Hamlet the Bards best work, others prefer King Lear or The Winters Tale. Tastes vary, but there is some critical consensus about which plays have the most enduring literary value. Hamlet Considered by many literary critics to be Shakespeare’s greatest play, this deeply moving story follows Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, as he grieves for his father and avenges his death. Possibly based on Shakespeare’s personal experience of losing his own son, Hamnet, in 1596, this tragedy manages to explore the complex psychology of its young hero hundreds of years before the emergence of psychology as a concept. For this alone, Hamlet deserves the number one spot. Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare is perhaps most famous for Romeo and Juliet, the classic story of two â€Å"star-crossed lovers.† This play has seeped into the consciousness of popular culture: if we describe someone as romantic, we might describe him as â€Å"a Romeo,† and the balcony scene is possibly the world’s most iconic (and quoted) dramatic text. The tragic love story unfolds against the backdrop of the Montague-Capulet feud—a subplot that provides several memorable action scenes. Shakespeare gets straight down to business at the start of the play and stages a fight between the Montagues and the Capulets serving men. The key reason for Romeo and Juliet’s popularity is its timeless themes; anyone of any age today can relate to a story about two people from very different backgrounds falling head-over-heels in love. Macbeth Macbeth—a short, punchy, intense piece of drama that charts the rise and fall of Macbeth from soldier to king to tyrant—features some of Shakespeares finest writing. Although all of the characters are well-drawn and the plot is perfectly formulated, it is Lady Macbeth who steals the show. She is one of Shakespeares most enduring villains, and it is her intense ambition that drives the play. This crime drama is so popular with audiences that it has inspired over 10 film adaptations. Julius Caesar Beloved by many, this play focuses on Roman senator Marcus Brutus and his involvement in the assassination of Roman emperor Julius Caesar. Those who have not read the play are often surprised to learn that Caesar only appears in a handful of scenes. Instead, the tragedy centers on Brutus conflicting morals and his psychological turmoil as he weaves a conspiracy that will transform history. Critic Harold Bloom has said that the play could have been called The Tragedy of Marcus Brutus. Much Ado About Nothing Much Ado About Nothing is Shakespeare’s best-loved comedy. The play mixes humor and tragedy and is one of the Bard’s most interesting texts from a stylistic point of view. The key to the play’s popularity rests on the turbulent love-hate relationship between Benedick and Beatrice. Throughout the play, the two are locked in a battle of wits—and although we know they really love each other, they just can’t admit it to themselves. Some critics consider Much Ado About Nothing a comedy of manners because it pokes fun at aristocratic behavior and language.
